A Day in Chinatown,KL :]

Taa Daa......First post in my new blog :]

Sunday is the day which clears away the rust of the whole week. In case of making my wonderful Sunday well spent, I decided to meet one of my secondary school classmates, Annabelle. We chose ChinaTown as the place we meet  because it is convenient to reach and there are a variety of local food (which I craved for long time, haha).

Graffiti Pasar Seni LRT Station
Early in the morning, I took ktm from Setia Jaya station to KL Sentral and then LRT from KL Sentral to Pasar Seni station. Right off the Pasar Seni LRT station, there are lots of colourful graffiti that decorate the walls beside the Klang River. I was amazed by those graffiti and at the same time how dirty the Klang River was...XD

What I know is there was an international graffiti competition held by the government a few years ago and it was participated by local graffiti artists and  foreign artists. For me, it is not only a chance for talented graffiti artists to show off their styles and boosting them into international spotlight but also a way to encourage intra-regional artistic exchanges. Besides, the graffiti breathed life and colour into the concrete grey walls along Klang River. (Give the graffiti artists many many LIKES!!)

Since I am the one who are forever hungry, Annabelle and I chose to visit Petaling Street (茨厂街) for breakfast rather than Central Market Kuala Lumpur(吉隆坡中央艺术坊) which showcase the nation's art, culture and heritage.

Petaling Street

A green roof covers the whole Petaling Street and is known as "Green Dragon".There are lots of stalls and shops selling fake branded goods like bags, watches and shoes. It is quite overcrowded in the morning of weekends as it is narrow between the stalls.

What To Eat in ChinaTown, KL
At first, I went to the Lee Lam Thye Wet Market Food Court(李霖泰菜市场)  to try local Chinese Food. Unfortunately, there were no empty seats and crowded with many people there.

1. Cantonese Porridge and Chee Cheong Fun (猪肠粉)

As I prefer my day begin with a warm bowl of porridge, so my friend and I tried the famous Cantonese porridge and Chee Cheong Fun first. I ordered the thick and creamy Raw Fish Porridge.
The Cantonese porridges have been being serving at Petaling Street since 1949 and it is located opposite Hong Leong Bank.

Cantonese style Chee Cheong Fun.

The Chee Cheong Fun is simple and does not come with a variety of accompaniments like fishballs. Besides, it comes with their special sweet sauce and chilli sauce.

2. Luo Han Guo, a Chinese Herbal Drink (罗汉果)

3. Muah Chee (麻籽)

The Muah Chee is chewy as it is made of glutinous rice flour. It is served with peanut powder, white seasame seeds and sugar.

4. Roasted Chestnuts (炒栗子)

5. Kim Lian Kee Hokkien Mee (金莲记福建面)

I craved for its original charcoal stir-fried Hokkien Mee of their old shop in Petaling Street for a long time already. Unfortunately, the old shop of Kim Lian Kee opens after 6pm so I had Hokkien Mee as my lunch in this branch.

Luckily my friend and I were able to find a seat in this restaurant as it was full with tourists mainly from China and Hong Kong at lunch time.
We ordered a pot of Chinese tea 普洱.

5. Bookstores
ChinaTown is also a heaven for vivid readers. There are lots of bookstores for example Popular大众书局, ShangHai bookstore上海书坊, YuYi Bookstore友谊书斋 and so on.

6. Souvenirs shops
It is worth to pay a visit to the souvenirs shops around Jalan Sultan and Jalan Petaling. Different types of souvenirs can be bought from the wholesalers there with a price lower about 30-50% from other shops.

For those prefer to buy wine as souvenirs, ChinaTown Liquor Shop 隆盛酒庄 is a wise choice. It is the first liquor shop in Kuala Lumpur.

7. Pak Tai Photo Shop 百代影社, the first photo shop in Kuala Lumpur.
